Learn Coffee!
Posted by on Tue, October 18, 2011 at 9:28 PM
We’re taking our coffee knowledge to the streets!
This fall, join us for one (or all!) of our Deep Knowledge Coffee classes, taught by our Director of Operations, and local Brewru, Dan Pabst.
Each class will explore a different topic on coffee and include tastings, demonstrations, and take-home samples. Class topics include:
Home Brewing 101 (Oct 27 & Dec 29) - Learn the fundamentals to brewing a great cup of coffee at home! You’ll learn how to choose the best coffees, what equipment is most important (and what’s not), and the six fundamental variables that affect coffee flavor. We’ll also cover proper brewing techniques and recipes for auto-drip, french press, and pour-over.
Coffee Tasting 101 (Nov 10) - Ever wonder how we come up with those descriptions on the coffee labels? Do you want to learn how we taste coffee before we decide to purchase it and offer it to you and other customers? This class will take you behind the scenes and show you how we prepare and taste coffee as professionals - aka “cupping.” We’ll evaluate the coffee using the same forms as the buyers for Mudhouse. The class will also explore the most common coffee flavors with the goal of helping you determine what kinds of coffee you like best!
Advanced Brewing: Hand-Pour Techniques (Dec 8) - Can’t get enough coffee science? Let’s take it to 11! One of the unique features of the Mudhouse coffee menu is our single-origin hand-pour bar. Grinding and brewing each coffee individually to order, we take the science of brewing excellent coffee to another level. But the best part of this method? With a little practice and the right equipment, you can brew the same quality cup at home! In this class, we’ll show you the secrets to brewing a perfect cup of hand-poured coffee—each and every time! Whether you use a Melitta, Hario or a classic Chemex, you’ll be ready to brew like a mudhouse barista!
The Details:
All classes begin at 6pm and take place in the Mudhouse Training Lab above the Downtown Mall Coffeehouse.
Classes cost $10 each (we promise it’ll be worth it!)—reserve your spot by purchasing a ticket from the Barista at either the Downtown of Crozet coffeehouse locations.
